Festival of Readings and Carols

The Choirs of the Cathedral of Saint Paul will present their annual Festival of Readings and Carols on Sunday, December 16 at 3:00 pm.

 

This annual presentation has become a much-beloved Cathedral tradition enriched by carols, readings, poetry, and music spanning the centuries to celebrate the season.

 

Composers represented include Hans Leo Hassler, Charles Wood, Elizabeth Poston, John Rutter, and James Biery.

 

Sung by the Cathedral Choir, a semi-professional adult choir of 40 voices and the St. Cecilia Choir, a choir for children and youth whose technique employs the methods of the Royal School of Church Music. Directed by James Biery; Marilyn Biery, organist.

 

No admission charge; donations gratefully accepted. Arrive early for best seating. The program is again sung at 10:45 pm on Monday, December 24 as the Festival Prelude to the Christ Mass at Midnight.

American Guild of Organists National Convention

June 22-26, 2008

Organists from around the country gather in the Twin Cities for the biennial American Guild of Organists Convention. On Sunday, June 22, the 10:00 am Liturgy at the Cathedral will offer special choral and organ music highlighting some of the Cathedral’s own unique contributions to the sacred music repertoire.

 

CD Release

In Excelsis Gloria!

A CD release of music for the Advent and Christmas season sung by the Cathedral Choir. This beautiful recording offers highlights from the Cathedral’s annual Festival of Readings and Carols, and makes a lovely Christmas gift. Includes the traditional favorites “O Holy Night” and “Lo, How a Rose,” as well as other choral gems such as Franz Biebl’s “Ave Maria” and Morten Laurdisen’s “O nata lux.” Available only from the Cathedral of St. Paul.
