At the Cathedral of Saint Paul,

For centuries, cathedrals have been centers for musical and artistic expression, helping to comfort, inspire, and refresh parishioners and visitors alike. The Cathedral of Saint Paul maintains this tradition with diverse music and arts programming that creates vitality for our community and neighborhood. It includes Cathedral Choir concerts and performances with the Cathedral Choir School of Minnesota, free presentations, and special events.We look forward to welcoming you!

Sounds of the Season

LAMENTATIONS
Sunday, March 18, at 2:30 p.m.

On Sunday, March 18 at 2:30 p.m., the Cathedral Schola Cantorum performs Thomas Tallis’ Lamentations of Jeremiah. The Cathedral Choir performs movements of Claudio Monteverdi's 1650 Mass for Four Voices followed by the Saint Cecilia Choristers of the Cathedral Choir School of Minnesota who will perform the Stabat mater of Giovanni Pergolesi. This setting of the sorrows of the Virgin Mary was composed at the end of Pergolesi’s short life, spent at a Franciscan monastery in Pozzuoli.

MOTHER OF GOD
Saturday, May 5, 5:30 p.m.

On Saturday, May 5 at 5:30 p.m., the Cathedral Rector, Father Joseph Johnson leads a series of meditations on the Glorious Mysteries of the Rosary accompanied by Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra violinist Michal Sobieski and Robert Ridgell, organ. The Rosary Sonatas of Heinrich Ignaz Franz Biber will be featured.


Heritage Concerts: To benefit the Cathedral Heritage Foundation

STRINGS, PIPES, AND A GLORIOUS TENOR (II)
Sunday, March 11, 2:30 p.m.

Reprising the formula of last year’s popular concert, Cathedral Cantor Nicholas Chalmers joins members of the Cathedral Chamber Orchestra and organist Lawrence Lawyer in an afternoon of sublime music featuring the 2007 Bennett & Giuttari portative organ. Suggested donation: $15.

MUSIC FOR A GRAND SPACE
Sunday, March 25, 2:30 p.m.

The Choirs of the University of Minnesota present ‘Music for a Grand Space’ featuring choral music especially suited for one of the largest cathedrals in the United States. Suggested donation: $15.

CATHEDRAL CHAMBER ORCHESTRA
Sunday, April 22, 2:30 p.m.

The inaugural concert of the Cathedral Chamber Orchestra features music of Scarletti, Corelli, and Handel’s Organ Concerto No.10, Op.7, No.4. Suggested donation: $15.

Cathedral Cantor Nicholas Chalmers joins members of the Cathedral Chamber Orchestra and organist Lawrence Lawyer to present a musical offering in the chapel at the Little Sisters of the Poor in Saint Paul.
