My name is Jacob O’Meara and I am beginning my first year of Theology as a seminarian at the Saint Paul Seminary. I was recently excited to learn that I have been assigned to the Cathedral as my “teaching parish.” Each seminarian at the Saint Paul Seminary is assigned to one particular parish to spend time in throughout his formation. This provides us with many beautiful opportunities to learn and grow in a parish setting which we do not have available to us at the seminary.

I am a seminarian of our Archdiocese of Saint Paul Minneapolis and I hail originally from Harris, Minnesota, a small town up on the northern edge of the Archdiocese. I am the oldest of eight – three boys and five girls. My first memories of the Cathedral are coming here with my family for the Good Friday liturgy of the Lord’s Passion every year growing up, as well as being confirmed here ten years ago. I never dreamt then that I would one day be back as a seminarian!

I attended the University of Mary in Bismarck, North Dakota, from 2016-2020 and earned a degree in Civil Engineering as well as a minor in Catholic Studies. By the time I graduated, it was becoming clear to me that God was inviting me to apply to seminary. I applied and was accepted at the Saint Paul Seminary in the fall of 2021 and have been there ever since, surprised at every turn by the goodness of God!

As I begin this assignment with you at the Cathedral I would humbly like to ask for your prayers for me – that the Lord would keep me faithful to Him in great things and in small things and that He would shape my heart to be more and more like His own. Please know of my excitement to begin this assignment and my prayers for all of you! I look forward to meeting you all in the days ahead!
